The Centre of Nuclear Medicine was established in Panjab University in the year 2007. The Centre offers M.Sc. and Ph.D. programmes in Nuclear Medicine. The M.Sc. course is approved by the Atomic Energy Regulatory Board of India.

The mission of the MSc Nuclear Medicine Program at Panjab University is to provide the students an opportunity to achieve expertise in diagnostic imaging and therapeutics with clinical hand on experience in Nuclear Medicine. Being faithful to the high standards of Panjab University, we impart a quality education leading to the award of degree in Masters of Science in Nuclear Medicine and train the student's for national/international eligibility test to be designated as certified Radiation safety officers and medical physicists

VISION of the Centre
Nuclear medicine is an emerging area in medicine and is growing at a fast pace in India and there is an urgent need for trained human resource as medical physicists and radiation safety officers for running nuclear medicine departments. Realising the same, the centre provide trained manpower to various hospitals, medical colleges/Institutes and Industry that make use of radioisotopes.

  • The Centre visions to train the students to demonstrate high standards of professional skills and competency/leadership qualities in the field of Nuclear Medicine.
  • To strengthen research in the field of Nuclear medicine particularly in reference to Radiopharmaceutical development and Fundamental Radiation biology

  • The Centre provides complete, up-to-date competency-based curriculum duly approved by Atomic Energy Regulatory Board of India
  • The course is being conducted jointly with a clinical collaborative partner.
  • The students get ample opportunity to achieve expertise in diagnostic imaging and therapeutic with clinical hand on training in Nuclear Medicine.

  1. Most of the students clear the national level Radiation Safety Officer examination conducted by BARC, Mumbai, a prerequisite for being designated as Radaition Safety Officer
  2. 100% placement of students as Nuclear Medicine physicists/Technologist and Radiological Safety Officers.
  3. Strong alumni base. Alumni are working with renowned institutes/hospitals viz: PGIMER (Chandigarh), AIIMs (New Delhi), CMC (Ludhiana), Tata Memorial Hospital (Mumbai), HBCHRC, Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Speciality Hospital (New Delhi) etc
